what carries over
the three shelves you know are here: read, reading and want to read. give a book stars, write a review, and keep the date you finished it. collections hold the lists you make yourself.
what's different
- films and songs get shelves too, and your photos and thoughts post to the same spot, so a friend sees what you're reading next to what you're watching and playing on repeat.
- no likes and no follower counts, so a review is just a review.
- the feed is newest first. no post is picked for you.
- sync shows how many titles you share with anyone, books included.
- it's free, with no ads and no in-app purchases.
bringing your shelves over
- from goodreads: my books → import and export → export library. then on the web, open settings → import → goodreads and upload the .csv. it brings read, currently reading and to-read shelves, with ratings, dates read and reviews.
- from storygraph: manage account → manage your data → export, then the same place under storygraph. it brings read, currently reading and to-read, with star ratings, dates and reviews.
nothing is written until you confirm, and anything already on your shelf is skipped, never doubled or overwritten.
when goodreads is the better fit
if you want goodreads' huge catalog of reader reviews, its reading challenge and its groups, it has years of that built up. sharespot is newer and smaller. it's for when your books are one part of what you're into, not all of it.
