The Dog Stars

This movie had sooo much wasted potential. The concept was genuinely interesting, I loved the actors, and I actually liked the overall plot, it was just executed so terribly. First of all, the movie is called The Dog Stars and the dog dies within the first 20 minutes 😭 We barely even got to see a real connection between him and Jacob Elordi’s character, so his death didn’t really hit as hard as I think it was supposed to. I also really liked the whole concept of the Grand Junction, but it just felt so out of place and random. Honestly, that’s how I felt about the entire movie. Things just kept happening one after another without any clear motive or direction, if that makes sense. It felt like the movie had all these interesting ideas but didn’t really know what to do with them. That being said, I did really like the bond between Margot Qualley and Jacob Elordi’s characters, so I can’t completely hate it. Overall, pretty weak and boring in my opinion, but definitely not the worst 2026 release I’ve seen, so I’ll give it that.
